The Building Appeals Board is an expert Tribunal, which operates similarly to VCAT (though under different legislation). The Board has a number of Members who include people from legal and non-legal backgrounds.
The Board can hear a number of different disputes relating to Part 7 of the Building Act (Protection of Adjoining Property), commonly including:
- Appeals of the decision of a Relevant Building Surveyor determining protection work (section 87);
- Disputes relating to insurance (section 93);
- Expense claims (section 97);
- Compensation claims (section 98).
